My first journeys around London come to my mind when I see the snapshots in this poster. As a non-native English speaker everything, from shapes and colours to words and notices, caught my attention and made the language inside alive.

The 1970's and the 1980's. Summer nights in my hometown. So hot that most families used to take the mattresses onto the roofs and sleep outdoors. To fall asleep while watching the stars in the sky. Amazing!

Without DVDs or internet at home, every Sunday children and teenagers crowded Victoria street towards the only cinema in town. 50 pence tickets to the Far East, with Bruce Lee, and to the Far West, with John Wayne. Lovely times!

I love the artwork in this poster. It reminds me of my parents' old photographs. I like the way people used to dress for evenings out and the places they used to go. Everything was just so beautiful then!

Every February, at school, we have a few lessons on Shakespeare. How I wish my students could travel to London, visit some places related to him, and enjoy the performance of one of his plays.

I was often told about Crystal Palace at school: an icon in 19th century engineering. A real poster which showed people how to get to such a famous place. It's great when school stuff comes to life!

Heart and engine: these words might describe the underground station in this poster. Below the streets something was designed and built to make everything above work faster and easier. Tottenheart!

The bus and the fireplace in the poster remind me of every journey towards home, looking forward to kissing and hugging all who wait for me. Home, sweet home!
